Although magazine printing,
when done well, has the ability to imbue the designer’s look in each finished product, there is the dollar cost of printing and shipping as well as the environmental cost for printing, shipping, and disposing of the products. A better solution, perhaps, is to utilize a website which allows for frequent addition of new articles, and allows one to place an “electronic magazine” as a PDF on the website, available for people to view online, or to print out themselves if they wish a copy for themselves/family/friends. This eliminates printing and shipping dollar costs for the magazine creator and may minimize environmental costs as only physical magazines wanted are likely to be printed out.
Making things look good on many devices (mobile-responsive) requires the understanding that things will be moved around to fit different devices (phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, watches, …) and will not be in one fixed location like the physical printing mentioned above. Laptops and desktops displays are usually wider than they are tall (“landscape”), while phones and tablets may be held in a “landscape” or in a “portrait” orientation.
